Tennessee has defined what recovery housing is, established certification standards, and directed TDOC to recognize approved recovery residences. The question now is whether placement and funding systems are consistently verifying that the housing being called “recovery housing” actually meets that standard.

A meaningful shift is taking place in the national recovery housing landscape, and Tennessee has a voice in that conversation. Through its affiliation with NARR, TN-ARR is connected to national efforts focused on recovery housing standards, sustainability, faith-based community support, and long-term recovery infrastructure.

Across the country, recovery housing policy is moving toward a clearer expectation: public dollars should follow quality, accountability, and nationally recognized standards. A new SAMHSA funding report, recent federal housing priorities, and emerging state investment models all point in the same direction. Certified recovery housing is no longer sitting at the edge of the conversation. It is becoming part of the infrastructure discussion. For Tennessee, that creates both opportunity and respon
